Bio
Stephen Scot Mayer is currently the Chief of Police for the community of Weslaco, Texas. Chief Mayer commands a department of seventy (70) sworn police officers, and twenty-six (26) civilian staff members. Daily, Chief Mayer strives to be the leader the citizens of Weslaco, the employees of the Weslaco Police Department, and his loving family at home deserve. Chief Mayer holds to the philosophy of community service and believes that a police department should; preserve and strengthen the principles of democracy, place its highest value on the preservation of life, ensure the prevention of crime is the department's number one operational priority, involve the community in the delivery of service while being held accountable for the service delivered, and be committed to professionalism while maintaining the highest standards of integrity. Chief Mayer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration and Management, currently he is enrolled in a Master in Public Administration program, he is an AELE Certified Litigation Specialist in matters of police liability and use of force, and is recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training in the Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) model.
