DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Planning & Code Enforcement Department leads the City’s development efforts for orderly and responsible growth. The department ensures compliance with ordinances and regulations.

Health
The Health Division conducts unannounced routine inspections and is performed at regular intervals throughout the year based on risk category. Risk levels include low, moderate and high risk with routine inspections, conducted two, three sometimes up to four times a year depending on the establishment’s risk level. There are two violation types: Critical and Non-critical violations.

Critical violations are improper practices and actions that directly contribute to food contamination and temperature abuse that may pose an immediate risk to public health, resulting in a Food Borne illness or injury. Critical violations must be corrected immediately or as directed by the Health Division

Non-critical violations are unacceptable practices that normally relate to the physical condition of an establishment including equipment, cleaning and storage. Non-critical violations must be corrected before the next routine inspection or as directed by the Health Division. Restaurant scores range from “0” to “100”demerits. In some cases restaurants must be closed due to immediate health hazard. (over 40 demerits / immediate closure).
